Parve the Cumpkin

"Hey, you wanna parve the cumpkin today?" – It was an honest mistake. Freudian slip? Regardless, I picked out a nice specimen for the project.
My favorite part is cutting out the lid. Then as we started removing the guts, my iphone took a dump and took a cool picture.
More gut removal, feels weird, good weird.
We kept the seeds and baked them with some salt, pepper and rosemary. Yum. The advertising made me thirsty, so I grabbed a Santa Fe Porter. Gotta make sure you really get in that pumpkin hole.
Two porters later, I began to draw the face of our glowing friend. I had an idea of what to draw earlier in the day, but then the only image I could think of was from Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
Queue Psycho shower scene music. The carving begins. Easier said than done, specially after 3 or 4 porters. Josie did an amazing job handling that knife.
Here's Einstein, doesn't look too scary in the day, but wait… Parving cumpkins Santa Fe style was fun. Brought me back to when my brother and I used to have the whole carving tool set and made a mess on the kitchen floor.
YEAH! Get some! Happy Halloween.

Hugo

This is Hugo, my most recent woodcut. The block is 24" x 48".
Here's a close-up. I took him to a couple of galleries in the area and they though he was too political for the tourists. I think I'm going to the wrong galleries. I hope to have better luck this week, I got a couple leads.
Brother gets special privileges, I sent him a Hugo and he already has Hugo up in his living room. Thanks for the pictures, bro.

Printing on Saturday

I was so exited yesterday driving to the studio, listening to Liquid Swords, anxious to start printing, and looking at the beautiful mountains, and then Walmart happened.
I arrived to find the cleanest, non-toxic printmaking studio I have ever seen. Here's my press in the foreground, we got well acquainted.
Ink the roller.
Ink the block.
Print the block with the greatest, funniest helper of all time, Señor Fig.
Ha!
Dry the print. This is Hugo, my latest print. He's a big f*%@er. I will pick them up on Tuesday, and hopefully get into a gallery next weekend. I hope Santa Fe is receptive of my work. It was a great day, exhausting and humbling, inspiring and motivating. More to come soon.

Rob & Julie in Santa Fe!

As soon as we got back to my pad, after Rob and Julie's horrible 4 hour delay, 3 planes later experience, we set it off with a little Hornitos. Bad Idea.
The lovely ladies pounded some wine with class and sofistication.
After the rough mornin' haul to Albuquerque, it was all about "break to the crib to change clothes once more, cuz you're invited to a barbecue that's starting at four, sitting with your friends as ya'll reminisce..." Yup. It was summertime in Albuquerque at the end of September.
"you've got to spike those Focker!"
As soon as the post pool dry skin hunger kicked in, Señor Fig fired up the grill. What a spread. Those chorizos are filled with green chile. (not seen in the photo: garden salad, boiled yucca with butter, guasacaca, and beans.
A very satisfied Roberto.
A very relaxed Julie, waiting for desert, Quesillo. It looks like another country, feels like another country, it should be another country. It is, it's New Mexico.
Post-feast cigars and politics with Señor Fig.
When we got our second wind we decided to take the world's longest tramway up to Sandia Peak. Elevation: 10,500 ft., roughly. After your first reaction of sharting, you enjoy the beautiful view.
Finally, the top. Those are the enormous wheels that crank the steel wires and caboose up to the top. Reminds me of some Willie Wonka machinery. Did I mention there is a bar/restaurant with a view at the top? It has the worst name ever though, High Finance.
After a couple of cocktails we stepped outside and caught the sunset.
There's is no other way to send your friend off in style like a game of Beer Pong. Enrique 2, Rob 1. Pretty nice set up too, 3 camping chairs, and two pieces of plywood, and cups filled with Santa Fe IPA's. Drink one. I had a AWESOME time, I think the whole town knows we had a good time. Come back soon Rob & Julie, I miss you guys.
